Published eight times a year and including essays, reviews, columns and listings by the most forward thinking writers, frieze magazine is Europe’s leading magazine of contemporary art and culture.
“Frieze’s brief for Erskine was certainly daunting: three interlinked websites that would comprise frieze magazine, Frieze Art Fair, as well as the non-profit organization Frieze Foundation. Erskine handled this major-scale task excellently, creating three sites that incorporate a large archive and various functionalities into an attractively minimal design that has drawn comparisons with, among others, the New Yorker, the Guardian, and Wired.”
Sam Thorne, Online Editor
One of three websites we produced concurrently for Frieze in 2007, the frieze magazine website has received widespread recognition for reigniting the Frieze online presence with its minimal design, and use of typography and flexible layout grid, plus carefully considered management of a vast content archive.
Frieze has a large client team, and we used a rigorous but organic development process to keep things on track and ensure everyone could participate.
Both ourselves and Frieze are excited to explore how physical magazine and website can operate in tandem, and ensure that the two compliment each other. Each magazine’s content is repurposed for the website, and that content is balanced by fresh online-only reviews and commentary commissioned from the finest arts writers.
